Mental health disorders are common. It refers to a range of mental health issues that may affect how you handle things as a result of your mood and behavior. Mental illness can occur in the forms of anxiety problems, depression, eating disorders and addictive behaviors. A mental illness can make you feel miserable and can cause problems in your daily life, such as at work or in relationships.
Most common signs
- You might feel extremely tired, sleepy and low with your energy. Waking up in the morning will be hard, or you have to stop and collect yourself multiple times. Your energy level could be low that you don’t feel even taking care of yourself, eating properly and talking to your loved ones.
- Excessive anger, hostility or violence tend to fly off more and get more uncontrollable. You may become disoriented, lose your memory, or feel like reality may be slipping through your fingers more.
- By being extremely depressed you might end up getting suicidal thoughts. This is something to be concerned and immediate support is needed.
- You may experience problems with alcohol and drug use. Sometimes this could be the result of yourself thinking that too much use of alcohol or drugs can heal you or self-medicate you. Throughout the day you will see yourself as being a drug addict and end up affecting your health both mentally and physically.
- You might feel excessively worried, guilty or scared. These might end up giving you stomach pain, back pain, headaches, or other unexplained aches and pains or there could even be changes in the eating habits.
- Your power of concentration may deteriorate affecting everything you do. Whether it’s at work or at home you may not focus on the work you do.
These are just some of the symptoms, but are certainly not the only signs.
How to protect your loved ones?
If you see any of your loved ones suffering from any of the signs which are discussed above, the best thing is to talk to them and have an open discussion about the situation. They might not accept that they have a mental issue, or you might not be able to convince them to seek medical advice, however, you can always be someone to encourage. Help them find a qualified mental health professional , make an appointment and be the support they need by going along with them to the Counseling Center.
